I was really unprepared when it came to Milan, and didn’t do a whole lot of research before going. If you remember my blog post about my 25th birthday, well, Adam came to the rescue again. Milan is one of his favourite cities, so he pretty much gave Jasiminne and I a full itinerary, and said we had to go for lunch at Il Salumaio di Montenapoleone. So after checking into our hotel, Palazzo Parigi, and freshening up, we headed over to Il Salumaio for the most delicious Italian lunch!
It was fairly close to our hotel, just a 10 minute walk away, and down a tiny little backstreet hidden away. The building itself was beautiful, with a cute little courtyard that looked perfect in the very welcome sunshine.
It was 12:30 on a Saturday, and we asked for a table for two in the courtyard. The staff said they were all fully booked, and took us to a dark little room where some other people were dining. The lighting was awful and it felt really claustrophobic, so we asked to be moved to the larger room with better lighting (hello, think of the photos people!). They moved us but said we would only have an hour as they were fully booked, but that was fine with us. We’re both quick eaters and with just 24 hours in Milan, we had an itinerary to get through!
The room we were moved to made such a big difference, to our moods as well as the photos! It was bigger, lighter, more relaxing, and we loved the little historic details throughout the room mixed in the with the modern aspects. The room had huge glass windows overlooking the courtyard. Also how cool are the water glasses?! Each one was unique and like a piece of art.
We had a look at the menu and decided to share the Burrata with cherry tomatoes to start with. It was probably the best burrata I’ve ever had in my life. It was just perfect.
For mains it was a tough decision. I literally wanted everything on the menu, but eventually chose the Rocket and ricotta cheese tortelloni with tomato sauce. While waiting for the mains we nibbled on fresh crusty bread dipped in olive and balsamic vinegar. We were basically in Italian foodie heaven.
Finally the mains arrived, Jasiminne wasn’t too keen on her steak tartare as it was minced. But my fresh pasta was just incredible! It was so full of flavour and just melted in my mouth.
We were both pretty full by this point so decided to share a dessert. We shared the Cheesecake with berries. Just look at it! L O O K.
Safe to say it was pretty amazing. We left the restaurant with very full and happy bellies, and after one more look at the beautiful courtyard, we headed out onto the streets to begin our time exploring Milan.
A pretty fabulous meal, at an authentic Milanese restaurant! Il Salumaio was pretty pricey, but I can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for an Italian treat. You can find it at; Via Santo Spirito, 10/Via Gesù, 5, Milano, Italy.

That burrata was easily the best thing we ate in Milan! I still have dreams about decadently huge it was, and that satisfying bounciness when we jabbed our forks in…aaaaaah! x

Your photos look amazing! I could feel like being back in Milan again. Btw. it's the best way to travel – come unprepared and allow yourself to be surprised and amazed by a beauty of the place. I prefer that instead of researching and waiting in anticipation for the trips, this often ends in disappointment! Well done for haggling for a bigger room, how could they actually let people sit in some dingy room? That ruins the whole experience! Love, Tristan Cross
