Christmas in the Lake District.

Christmas this year was a quiet one. After work on Wednesday I jumped on the train up to Oxenholme in the Lake District to meet the rest of my family there. My Aunty and Uncle and cousins live up there, and I was pretty excited after not visiting for seven years. Yes. Seven! I was excited for long walks in the mountains, testing out new photography skills, and pub drinks with the ones I love…

…unfortunately the weather had other ideas! It rained most of the time we were there, and a storm on Boxing Day meant most of the roads around Kendal were closed due to flooding. So instead of long walks and pub drinks, we stayed inside and watched movies and ate a lot of food! I actually really needed those few days of relaxing and quietness, the past few months have been pretty busy and it was nice to just stop.

Dylan also discovered a love for my cousin, and wouldn’t leave him alone! One day we found him asleep in his bedroom, and whenever he sat on the ’emergency’ beanbag Dylan would rest his head on it, then jump onto it as soon as he got up. It was hilarious and had us all in stitches!
Despite the weather we did manage a couple of small walks in the local area. We walked up to the Scar and got very windswept (it was so windy and wet I left the big camera behind and just used my phone and little GF5), and then we also went for a little walk around part of Lake Windermere, but it was very flooded and raining pretty heavily so we escaped back to the warmth and safety of the house to watch films.

Even with rubbish weather we had such a great Christmas, it was so good to be surrounded by family and spend some real time with them! I can’t believe I hadn’t seen them for three years – since Christmas 2012!
Also, how the hell was Dylan able to sleep like this?! He was literally fast asleep with his nose/face pressed flat against the floor…

I've never been to the Lake District, despite my love of Beatrix Potter. Dylan looks super cute!

Dylan is too cute! My cousins little dog does the same thing until someone gets up but she'll actually bark until they do! I agree it is really nice to just stop! Sounds like a great holiday! 🙂
