Sam’s is trendy and modern and full of all sorts of people; lots of families going for lunch, as well as businessmen, couples and friends catching up for a gossip over pancakes and burgers.
We started with juices and smoothies. Dr J had the carrot juice (it had a couple of extra ingredients too, but I can’t remember what they were), while I had the strawberry and raspberry smoothie. Both were absolutely delicious and the perfect start to a very unhealthy brunch, and two very large Gregory’s!
John had the Salmon & Smoked Haddock Kedgeree with Poached Eggs. Although filling, it hit the spot, and the poached eggs weren’t overcooked and tough, but instead deliciously soft and runny.
I went for the most unhealthy option on the menu, naturally. French toast covered in lashings of chocolate sauce and layers of bananas, and finished off with a dusting of icing sugar. I also got fries and mayo on the side…just for that wee bit of savoury taste to counteract the sweetness of the sticky goodness in front of me. Needless to say the french toast was ah-mazing. A taste sensation that filled my tummy and left me wanting another plate of the sweet stuff. I don’t think it beats the sweet french toast at The Providores, but it comes in at a very close second!
Despite wanting another plate of the sweet french toast, we decided to be really naughty and try a dessert instead (no, we don’t stick to normal ‘brunch’ rules), so we opted for the Apple and Blackberry crumble with custard and an extra scoop of ice-cream. Now, I’m a bit of an expert when it comes to crumble. It is my favourite dessert, ever. And this crumble was just a little bit perfect. The fruit was moist, warm and tasted incredibly fresh, and the crumble was crumbly but crispy in all the right ways.
That food looks soooo good!!!!
Oh that crumble…I need some crumble in my life soon!
I really want more now, haha!
