I wasn’t originally going to write a review of Ting, but we enjoyed it so much I just have to tell you all about it! We were really lucky to have our dinner included as part of my review of the hotel part of Shangri-La At The Shard, and after testing out the cocktails in GŎNG, I met Edd outside Ting for dinner with the most incredible view! So, what did we have exactly, and why did it impress us…?
While we perused the menu we nibbled on some of the delicious homemade bread from nearby Borough Market, and sipped on the tastiest cocktails. Not a bad way to start a meal, that’s for sure!
To start, Edd chose the Salmon with beetroot, avocado, wasabi, and ponzu (£21), while I opted for the Tuna and basmati salad (£20). My tuna was tasty, but had a little too much rice which was quite dry – it could have done with more dressing.
I continued my healthy choices through to the main course, eventually deciding on the Halibut (£35). Edd annoyingly went for what I would have had if I hadn’t been saving myself for dessert; the steak (£42), with a mustard brean sprout salad and a side of French fries. Despite getting major food envy, my Halibut was delicious, and Edd kindly let me try some of his steak which was absolutely incredible! Oh my gosh was it a great steak!! I went from food envy to pure food regret.
We had a break between mains and dessert, and went to watch the sunset over the other side of the hotel where the check-in area is. Our waiter had very kindly come over and given us a ten minute warning for the sunset, giving us a chance to wander over there and watch it slowly dip behind the London skyline. It was without a doubt one of the highlights of my trip home!
After sunset we headed back to the table and chose our desserts. I was still sticking to the ‘lighter’ options, so chose the White chocolate and lychee mousse (£9). This was quite literally the most perfect summer dessert ever! The lychee made the dessert refreshing, but the sweetness of the white chocolate made it taste super moreish and naughty.
Edd went all out and had the signature chocolate dessert; Shangri-La Or Noir chocolate, citrus, and sea buckthorn (£9). His face basically said it all, and I really wish I’d got a photo – it was pure satisfaction haha. I had a little taster and it was very rich, but absolutely delicious. Definitely a treat dessert!
Although Ting certainly isn’t the type of atmospheric restaurant to go to with a group of friends, it’s a fantastic date spot, and a fab choice for a family dinner, client dinner, or if you just fancy catching up with a friend over excellent food and in quiet surroundings where you can actually what the other person is saying. And let’s face it, the view over London is pretty spectacular too!
We left the restaurant feeling full, and juuust a little bit jolly from all of the fabulous wines that had been paired with our dishes! I’m really fussy with wine, but I enjoyed every single one – even the dessert wine when I’m not usually a huge fan of sweet wines.
