Well well well. My first blog post since being back in London, that is actually about somewhere IN London. I’ve been back in the country since the end of May but have had a lot of family stuff going on (I’ll explain in a post soon) so blogging has been quite sporadic and I’ve been trying to get my South Pacific posts written up.
But alas, here we go! I’m home, and I am SO ready to throw myself back into London life and London blogging. And what better way to start than with a restaurant review of an Australian restaurant?
Scarlett Green in Soho is the new venture of the people behind Daisy Green Collective; a collection of Australian restaurants dotted around the city, and it is fabulously Australian!
So, ready for my review of Scarlett Green? Let’s go!
One of my old Aussie colleagues also recently moved to London, and so we decided to catch up over an Australian lunch at Scarlett Green. We sat in the window with the sunshine pouring in, and save for the noise of the Soho traffic outside, we could have been back in Sydney sipping on a crisp white wine perusing a menu filled with avo on toast, chicken parmiagana, and banana bread.
Choosing typically Australian dishes
After speaking to our delightful waiter, we naturally chose some very Australian dishes. We chose to share; the banana bread sandwich, spicy tuna tostadas, halloumi fries, sea bream ceviche, a baby gem lettuce salad, and the aubergine parmigiana with twice-cooked duck fat fries. It’s safe to say we were very full when we left the restaurant! And of course the glass of crisp white wine which paired perfectly with the fish dishes.
Beautiful fresh food and flavours
Our entire meal was a riot of colour and flavour. We adored the tuna tostadas and sea bream ceviche, and the aubergine parmigiana was also a stand-out dish for both of us. The banana bread sandwich was tasty, but slightly burnt around the edges which overpowered the flavours of the dish a little too much. And of course halloumi fries are always a winner, but even more so with the labneh and pomegranate!
We had the loveliest lunch at Scarlett Green, and felt right at home surrounded by huge images of Bondi beach. Thankfully it’s just round the corner from my office in Soho, so I’ll definitely be popping in whenever I need my Aussie food fix (they even had huge lamingtons on the counter)!
*We were invited to review Scarlett Green and as such our meal was complimentary. This does not influence my love for Aussie food and all opinions are my own.
