So this is my last Perth post until Easter. I figured it would be good to end with one based on my favourite type of food, and my favourite location in WA. City Beach is very close to my heart, I lived there for a year when I was 16, and have so many fond memories of that place. Despite its name it’s actually nowhere near the city. It’s actually about 10km away, a small suburb right on one of Western Australia’s most beautiful stretches of coastline, full of beautiful houses, big green parks, and close to Scarborough. Clancy’s Fish Pub has been there for the past few years, and although I’d been before for a classic fish and chips, I was keen to try out the rest of their seafood offering.
Anna and I headed there for lunch on New Year’s Eve Eve. I was back in Perth for a week over Christmas and NY, and only had a limited number of days in which to visit a long list of restaurants. I decided to save a couple of special ones for when I’m back in Perth over Easter and my birthday, and so the ones I visited over Christmas were Tropico North Beach (ah-mazing, but I didn’t take my camera),
il Lido, and Clancy’s.
Clancy’s Fish Pub used to be Oceana, a favourite restaurant of my parents and where I had my graduation dinner. It was a fancy seafood restaurant, and when it closed down we were pretty devastated. Clancy’s took its place, and is a much more relaxed and casual restaurant, very ‘beachy’ and funky. It feels a little like a beach resort restaurant, and has the most amazing view over City Beach and the ocean!
Anna and I managed to get a table with a reasonable view of the beach, and had a look at the menu to see what we fancied. Luckily we have a very similar taste in food, so we usually get things to share (or in the case of our
Hamptons Brunch, we just order the exact same dish). We decided to be good and stick to water, as we had loads of bottles of
champagne back at Anna’s and were having a house party/gathering later that evening. From the menu we chose heaps of yummy fish dishes!
We started with Battered Fish Tacos, which were without a doubt our favourite dish of them all…
Then moved on to Kingfish ceviche, which was also exceptionally good, and I adored the combination of the flavours of pomegranate, avocado, and kingfish….
Prawn and watermelon salad, which was our least favourite dish – far too much watermelon and not enough prawns….
And calamari, which was cooked just perfectly…
We also had fries, but I didn’t take a photo of them. After our lunch (which came to a very reasonable $40 each – around £20), we ran down to the beach, and then headed back to Anna’s for an afternoon by the pool before getting some more drinks for the gathering. It was a super fun day and night that ended with the two of us drunkenly eating pizza at 3am like we were 17 all over again!
