The other week my friend Hilary and I went for
Sunday lunch at The Petersham Hotel in Richmond. It had been a while since we had a proper catch up, and as Hilary lives near Richmond it was the perfect place for a gossip and delicious lunch!
We went for the three-course Sunday lunch (£34.50pp), and I chose the Steamed Lasagne of Cornish Crab, while Hilary went for the Cured Smoked Salmon. My lasagne was exceptionally good, the pasta was light and the Cornish crab in a coconut and tomato sauce was a delight. The flavours worked well together, and it wasn’t too heavy for a starter.
Hilary is gluten-free, so her salmon came minus the blini, but she loved it and thought it was delicious.
I’m not sure why but I love photos of bread…is that a bit weird?! The bread at The Petersham was pretty darn good, not your usual white or brown, but rather it had an interesting flavour that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
For our mains I struggled to choose between the Hake and the Chicken Breast, but in the end went for the Chicken Breast. I was really happy with my choice! The chicken was cooked perfectly (not too overdone), and even had a lovely crispy skin! I was originally unsure about the combination of the chicken with aged prunes, creamed leeks, and potato puree, but it actually tasted incredible and made a
nice change to your standard roast chicken.
Hilary chose the 28 Days Hung Roast Sirloin of Dedham Vale Beef. She said it was great! Also, because of her gluten-free-ness, I got to have her Yorkshire pudding – win!
Dessert was a tough one for Hilary because the only gluten-free options available were the Creme Brulee, and Sorbet. I was a bit of a meanie and had the Chocolate Fondant, but actually despite the fondant being oh so decadent and moreish, the Creme Brulee ended up being the winner! It was deliciously creamy and really excellent.
We had a really lovely lunch at
The Petersham Hotel sitting looking out over the river and fields, in fact we were there for nearly 3 hours just chattering away and eating! After dessert we stayed for quite a while just drinking pots of tea. The restaurant was completely packed with all sorts of people; families, friends, couples, people both young and old.
The restaurant itself felt a little dated, but with the light streaming in and the fabulous atmosphere and incredible food we didn’t notice it too much. Also a special shout-out to the fantastic staff – all of them were so helpful and so lovely!
*Our lunch was complimentary

Ooo I was at The Petersham the other week and blogged about it 🙂
The food really is out of this world that's for sure and was a highlight that's for sure. Chef Ade is so talented and produces such moorish food.
Great post and the chocolate fondant looks delicious!
