Walking from Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach, Sydney.

I’ve done the Bondi to Coogee walk a few times now, but the Bondi beach to Bronte beach section is my favourite part of it. During my most recent trip to Sydney I didn’t have time to do the entire Bondi to Coogee walk, so I did the shorter version and it was so beautiful that I wanted to share the photos with you all. The Bondi to Bronte part of the walk is about 2.5km and takes roughly 30-40mins depending on how many times you stop for photos.

To start the walk you need to go to Bondi Icebergs, and then follow the path that goes towards the cliffs away from Bondi.

The Bondi to Coogee walk is marked on Google maps, and there’s always loads of other walkers doing the walk so you can generally just follow the crowd. Now, there are a lot of steps and hills as you’re walking along the cliff-edge, so you really do need to be fit and healthy. Unfortunately it’s not accessible or suitable for those who struggle with walking.

If you can manage the walk, the views from the coastal walk on a sunny day are breathtaking, and it’s definitely one of my favourite things to do in Sydney. At certain points of the year you might even get lucky and see whales migrating!

As you walk through Mark’s Park you’ll see some Aboriginal rock carvings, as well as the Bondi memorial. Keep walking all the way around Tamarama beach – this beach is really lovely, with a nice deep stretch of sand, but it always seems to have large waves (which I don’t like lol) – and you’ll then need to go up the stairs at the back of the Tamarama beach kiosk to get back onto Tamarama Marine Drive and the coastal path.

Just a short walk around the corner and you’ve arrived at Bronte beach.

This is a really lovely swimming beach, and even better – they have an ocean pool! In my opinion it’s far nicer than Icebergs, although they are very different. Icebergs is more of a ‘professional’ pool and setup, whilst Bronte Baths is very much a casual pool carved into the rock (it reminds me a bit of Bude Sea Pool in Cornwall).

The pool was created in the 1880s and is really popular with families and locals. There are obviously lots of benefits to swimming in the pool rather than the ocean – the main ones being you don’t need to worry about sharks, and you don’t need to worry about dumping waves and rips!

After you’ve been for a swim make sure you go to the Bogey Hole Cafe for an iced chocolate, and if you’re feeling up to it and have the time, continue on the coastal walk all the way down to Coogee Beach (it’s another 2km or so away from Bronte, so another 30mins-ish) and enjoy lunch at Coogee Pavilion!
