Royal Automobile Club Summer Ball 2015.

Saturday evening was the inter-club summer ball at the Royal Automobile Club’s Woodcote Park clubhouse in Epsom. I’ve been to the Pall Mall clubhouse numerous times (Just a few of my blog posts: Comedy Night, Girlie Drinks, My 21st Birthday, James Bond Night, Jubilee Ball, and the Christmas Ball), however I’d never actually been to the country clubhouse. It’s less than half an hour away from where I live, so very handy to get to, and absolutely breathtaking! Set in 350 acres of land, it has a true ‘country club’ feel to it, and it was so lovely to attend an event outside of London for once.
As it was black tie full-length dresses were out in force and the gents all looked rather handsome in their tuxedos. I was going to wear a bright pink dress that I haven’t worn before, but chickened out at the last minute and just opted for my black dress with red lipstick. I’m actually really glad I made this decision, the black option was far more glamorous than the pink one.

We went a little bit crazy with the photos…so please be warned that this post is very photo heavy (but in a good way I like to think…). We started with a drinks reception in the beautiful garden at the side of the clubhouse, with a live band playing. The weather was just glorious and we spent an excellent hour drinking pimms out of teacups, playing croquet, and prancing around taking photos in the beautiful surroundings. Sadly I didn’t get a photo of the front of the building as the garden is at the side, but it’s insanely beautiful, here’s one below from their website:

When it was time to move inside we found our table and sat down for dinner. As you all know by now I can’t stand salmon (seriously, WHY does every single event serve this bloody fish!), so I had the veggie option, which was a potato fritatta with roasted veggies. It was actually really tasty and full of flavour!

For mains we had lamb, which was just delicious. The food at the Pall Mall clubhouse is always incredible, so it was really nice to see they’ve carried this through to the country clubhouse as well.

Dessert was without a doubt the best part! It was very similar to the dessert at The Hurlingham Christmas Ball, numerous little cakes and pastries on a tiered cake stand. All of them were perfect and oh so tasty. I may have had more than my fair share… *ahem*.
After a short break it was time for dancing. At these events you usually either have a jazz band playing old school music or a DJ playing modern music. It’s difficult because you want a live band to create the right atmosphere, but you also want modern music. The band that played was one of the best I’ve seen at these events (if not the best), they were fantastic! They played such a huge variety of music, from Beyonce to Frankie Valli. You name it they did it. The woman who was the lead singer had such a powerful gravelly voice she could just sing anything!

The above photo is of me with Chris, who was in charge of organising the event! He always does a good job with the RAC balls.

We danced the night away, swinging each other around and when we needed a break we went outside to the garden to play giant chess or giant jenga, or just sit at the outside tables and take in the fresh air.

The other Catherine and I had great fun with Alex taking lots of photos!

I think that’s one of the main things that made this ball so good, was the fact you had two very different spaces that were so easy to move between.

We finished the night dancing wildly to Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now and then The Killers Mr Brightside. Two of my all-time favourite songs. Safe to say it got a little crazy, and Edmund thought it would be an amazing idea to swing me around. I have a video of it, so I’ll edit together a video from the night and put it up on Youtube tomorrow – go and subscribe now!

Great post. The band is Jamtastic. We have had the pleasure of seeing them a few times before as they've played at some friends' weddings. Love their sets.
